Bears vs Giants : After an offseason where optimism has been at a premium, the New York Giants got their preseason off to a promising start with a win over their Big Apple rivals.
More importantly, Daniel Jones looked impressive in his first outing in a blue jersey.
The Giants’ top pick in this year’s draft played just one series, but completed five out of five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 31-22 win over the New York Jets.
The Giants’ decision to trade up to number six to select the Duke quarterback raised a few eyebrows, particularly as the franchise passed on the chance of selecting a signal-caller in the first round a year ago, when the talent on offer in the position was a lot higher.
.@Daniel_Jones10 put up a PERFECT passer rating in his first NFL action: 5-for-5, 67 yards, 1 TD.
Jones, however, looked exactly like the player the Giants hoped to draft. Clearly, it would be premature to judge the rookie based on a single series in a preseason game, but there are reasons for Big Blue to be optimistic.
Next up for the Giants is an all-NFC affair against the Chicago Bears, who visit the MetLife Stadium on Friday night.
The Bears made the playoffs last season but lost 23-13 at home against the Carolina Panthers last week. Coach Matt Nagy rested most of his starters, with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on the field for just one series, in which he didn’t throw a pass.
The Bears head coach placed a much bigger emphasis on the quest for a new kicker, with Elliott Fry and Eddy Pineiro battling it out for the role.
Fry made a 43-yard field goal and his lone PAT attempt, while Pineiro landed a 23-yard chip shot but missed a 48-yarder.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Friday.
